You used to have to make sure you backed up everything on your desktop to the cloud, but now if you’re using Google Apps or Gmail plus all the social services for storing photos and messages – you now need to make sure you’re keeping a local copy of all your data.

Whilst Google and other providers have a pretty good track record for not losing data, if you’ve committed all your email, calendar, contacts, photos and all your messages to the cloud you want to know you can get it back should the worst happen.

Backupify simply offers an easy way of saving your cloud based data to a single hosted backup. Something you can do yourself of course, but generally backups don’t happen unless they’re simple and automated. The issue is that you’re still dependent on web access and I’d recommend downloading local backups of your most important information regardless of whether you use a service like this or not.
